A
Beacon Center is a school based Community Center, currently
operating in neighborhoods across the five boroughs of New
York City. Beacons provide structured academics, social
and cultural activities for families within the
community. The Bildersee Beacon provides free
educational, cultural and recreational activities for youth
and adults, Mondays through Saturdays.
The
program offers Homework Assistance, Reading and Maths
Tutorials, Dance, Drama, Art and Craft, Computer, Job
Readiness, GED, ESL, Sewing, Youth Leadership, Aerobics,
Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Martial Arts and much more.
A NEW DAY IN HOMEWORK HELP & SUPPORT
The
Empowerment Loop is providing new leadership and through our
collaboration with concerned parents and the Beacon staff, we
have some lofty goals. From 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm,
Mondays through Thursdays your child works on assigned
homework under the supervision of an Activity Specialist with
the assistance of volunteers from the Youth Council. Our
Activity Specialist are young adults with a love for kids and
a dedication to help children move beyond just thinking about
the completion of homework as an end in and of itself or a
prelude to play. The truth is that homework is a pathway
to knowledge. The Empowerment Loop puts a strong focus
on using the Homework Center to build muscle and strength in
these areas.
For
more information about the Beacon Program please contact the
Program Director -
Mrs. Francis Platt at (718) 241-3847.

BILDERSEE BEACON PARENT COUNCIL
Parent
at Bildersee Beacon are doing extraordinary things to make
sure that their children get to participate in a wide range of
enrichment activities. They know what an enormous
difference will make in the exposure their children receive
and the knowledge that they gain. Parents are very
involved, through their participation in the Parent Council in
raising funds to cover the cost of these programs.
Funding determines the ratio of Activity Specialist to
children and even the type of background and experience that
we will attract as we seek to recruit truly exceptional
Activity Specialist.
To
register for Bildersee Beacon visit our office at I.S 68,
Mondays through Fridays, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Saturdays from
12:00 am - 5:00 pm.
BILDERSEE BEACON YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
The
Youth Leadership Program is designed to provide youth with the
skills necessary to empower themselves and others. To
help them to gain self esteem and a new understanding of the
important roles they play in the preservation, creation or
destruction of their neighborhood and their own people.

Bildersee
Beacon Youth Council's mission is to improve the way the
community views young people and the way youth look at their
futures. We believe that education is the key to our
success. We are seeking to change the way society sees
our youth by establishing a trusting relationships within the
school our program is based and the adults and seniors in our
community who have lost faith. Our wish is that the
people and businesses in the community that have extending a
hand in the past will continue to support us. Together
as a community we nurture, empower and mold positive leaders
of tomorrow.
